HELP AVAILABLE TO REDUCE PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS

PASSAGES’ Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP) is offering free help to reduce prescription drug costs. Anyone who has a Medicare prescription drug plan and has limited income and resources can apply for “extra help” to pay for premiums, annual deductibles and prescription drug co-payments.

The “extra help,” also known as Low Income Subsidy, is a benefit offered by the Social Security Administration only to people with Medicare who have limited income and resources, and do not have full Medi-Cal.

PASSAGES believes that being able to reduce costs for prescriptions is an important way to help maintain independence of seniors, caregivers and adults with disabilities, so that one doesn’t have to choose between food and needed medications.
