A movement to foster Dementia Awareness

The Purple City Project is a city-wide initiative to promote dementia awareness and create a more compassionate community in cities throughout Northern California.

The idea originated with Purple Cities Alliance in Knoxville, TN and the Purple Angel Dementia Campaign in Devon, UK with a mission to create “Dementia Friendly Cities,” or “Purple Cities.” In a Purple City, community members and organizations take specific steps to learn about dementia and help those with dementia feel safer and better cared for in the community.

The color purple is the official color of the Alzheimer’s movement.
