Volunteer Senior Companion Program:

The Senior Companion Program offers older adults opportunities to serve as companions for frail elderly who require assistance to remain independent and are living in our community. They also provide an average of 15 to 20 hours of weekly service such as friendly visiting and companionship.

In return for their service Senior Companions also receive a tax-free stipend, assistance with transportation, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. In addition to these benefits, the program participants have the opportunity to share their experience with other seniors and offer emotional support to elders who face challenges remaining independent in their homes.

Senior companions must be at least 55 years of age. Seniors meeting the income eligibility requirement will receive a tax-free stipend, however, if over the income level, they can serve a non-stipend volunteer and receive all benefits excluding the stipend.

Become a Senior Companion. Contact a Volunteer Support Specialist, at PASSAGES Volunteer Services at (530) 898-6761 to find out about Senior Companion openings in your area.
